Amisha Patel was born on 9th June, 1976. She is the daughter of Amit Patel and Asha Patel. Her name is a blend of the first three letters of her father's name Amit and the last three letters of her mother's name Asha.
Amisha studied at the Cathedral and John Connon High School in Bombay and graduated from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. She started her career as a model and has also worked in a financial company for Morgan Stanley. Once she was back in India, she joined Satyadev Dubey's theatre group and started acting in plays.
Amrita made her debut in the blockbuster Kaho Naa. Pyaar Hai. Her performance in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha won her critical praise. Ankahee and Bhool Bhulaiyaa were another of her two movies where she received critical recognition.
